Monitoring compliance with CLEDS Standards

The Commissioner for Law Enforcement Data Security has a statutory role to monitor compliance with the Standards for Victoria Police Law Enforcement Data Security.

The Commissioner takes a three tiered approach to monitoring compliance with CLEDS standards and protocols, including:

• high level continuous monitoring of all standards, annually
• detailed risk based reviews
• event based reviews

The annual compliance review may indicate the need for a detailed review. Event based reviews are ad hoc and consequent on an unplanned event with information security implications.

If the compliance review finds partial compliance or non-compliance with the standards, the Commissioner will make recommendations to the Chief Commissioner of Police as to how compliance can be achieved.
